OCR: Discarding his earlier idea that air itself was blue, Leonardo now believed that the blueness of the sky was just an illusion-the result of seeing this outer darkness through whitish, illuminated air. Dense particles of moisture, forming clouds, thus appeared white and opaque. When less dense, these particles became transparent, though they were luminous in sunlight. This wat observation helped him revise the existing theory of how water circulates- it moves not through the earth, but around it, carried by the element of air. He realized that not only do earth and water mingle, but so do water and air.
